Pesto is a sauce which has basil as the main ingredient. Originally from Italy, this sauce became famous throughout the world for its simple preparation and also for the flavor which adapted to any type of food.
Although it is made with ingredients originating in Europe, there are some adaptations that we can prepare to taste a very similar flavor. It should be noted that you can add or remove some ingredients to adapt it to your taste.
For this homemade pesto, you will need:
Ingredients
- 50 gr. of Basil
- w/olive oil
- 20 gr. Walnuts (Optional)
- 2 tbsp. grated cheese (Parmesan)
- Coarse salt
- 2 cloves of Garlic
- Mortar
Preparation
1- To begin, we put the previously peeled clove of garlic along with a teaspoon of coarse salt. We mash a little until we obtain a pasty texture.
2- While we continue mashing, little by little we add the basil leaves along with a few grains of salt and repeat this procedure until we finish with all the basil.
3- We are also gradually incorporating the walnuts along with the grated cheese and combining all the ingredients.
4- To achieve a perfect texture as a sauce, we have to add the olive oil spoonfuls and then mash the ingredients a little until it is a uniform sauce. We repeat the procedure until we obtain the desired texture.
And voila, this delicious homemade pesto is prepared in this simple way!
Tips
- If you don’t have a mortar, you can use a food processor or a mini grinder.
- Now, if the sauce is very thick, you can use cooking water (the water we use to cook the pasta), mix well until you achieve the perfect texture.
- As for the cheese, we can use any hard cheese that is suitable for grating.
- The quantities that we gave you in the ingredients section are perfectly balanced to feel the flavor of all the ingredients. Likewise, we recommend that you do a trial and try taking out or adding until you get a result that suits your taste.
