How to make dulce de leche flan

Flan is a traditional dessert enjoyed in many homes around the world.

However, when we add the unmistakable flavor of dulce de leche, this classic becomes an unmissable delicacy.

Here we present a simple and delicious recipe to prepare a dulce de leche flan that will surely conquer all your diners.

Ingredients

  • 150 grams of sugar (3/4 cup)
  • 250 grams of dulce de leche (Note: In other places it is known as arequipe or manjar blanco. If you are celiac, make sure it is suitable for you).
  • 500 ml boiled milk (2 cups)
  • 3 spoonfuls of sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 4 yolks
  • 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract

Preparation

  1. Prepare the caramel by placing the sugar in a saucepan and barely covering it with water. Heat until you obtain a good colored caramel.
  2. Quickly pour the caramel into a pudding pan, distributing and turning to coat its entire internal surface. Let cool until solid.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the freshly boiled milk with the three tablespoons of sugar. Stir it and let it cool.
  4. In a separate container, semi-beat the yolks together with the whole egg. Add the dulce de leche and mix well until integrated.
  5. Add the vanilla essence to the mixture and then the milk gradually.
  6. Transfer the preparation to the caramelized pudding pan and cook in a bain-marie in an oven preheated to 180°C. Remember that the water in the bain-marie must be hot and reach halfway up the pudding pot.
  7. Cook the flan for approximately 45 minutes. You must make sure that the edges are firm and the center still retains some moisture.
  8. Once cooked, remove the flan from the oven and from the bain-marie. Let it cool to room temperature and then refrigerate until it is very cold.
  9. When serving, carefully unmold and present on a nice plate.

Enjoy this dulce de leche flan as a dessert after a good meal or simply as a delicious snack.

It is a gem of pastry that never goes out of style and is always a pleasure for the palate. Enjoy!
