Grandma’s sponge cake is more than a dessert, it is a jewel full of history and love.
When we feel the aroma of vanilla that invades the kitchen, we can’t help but remember the afternoons at grandma’s house, sharing anecdotes and laughter.
Its soft and spongy texture is the testimony of generations of love and tradition in every bite.
Ingredients
- 200 g (about 1 cup) sugar
- 115 g (about 1/2 cup) melted butter
- 2 eggs
- 1 Teaspoon vanilla extract
- 250 g (about 2 cups) 0000 flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 pinch of salt
- 240 ml (about 1 cup) milk
Preparation
- Turn the oven on to 180°C and prepare a cake by spreading it with a little butter or oil.
- In a bowl, combine the sugar and melted butter until you get a smooth and homogeneous cream.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well between each addition. Add the vanilla essence and stir.
- On the other hand, in a separate container, sift the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
- Add this dry mixture to the bowl with the butter and sugar, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the dry ingredients. Combine everything gently to prevent the cake from being heavy.
- Pour the preparation into the cake pan and distribute it evenly.
- Bake for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into it comes out clean.
- When ready, remove from the oven and wait a few minutes before unmolding. Then, transfer to a rack and let cool.
- If you want, you can sprinkle powdered sugar on top to give it a special touch.
- Ready! Now all that’s left is to enjoy that sponge cake that, more than a dessert, is a little piece of family history.
Remember that each oven is different, so cooking times may vary. Until the next recipe and enjoy it!
