Bobby Flay’s Italian Meatball Recipe

There are thousands of meatball recipes, I know. But this recipe is the one that stands out the most to me with the combination of 3 meats, parmesan cheese and homemade marinara sauce.

The cooking method is also perfect. It leaves you with super tasty meatballs that hold their shape but are also super tender.

Ingredients

meatballs

1/2 pound ground beef
1/2 pound ground pork, *see notes
1/2 pound ground beef, *see notes
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
1/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated to a powder
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped
1/4 cup Italian breadcrumbs, preferably homemade
1/4 cup parsley, finely chopped
Salt and freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil

Homemade Sauce

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 Spanish onion, finely chopped
4 cloves garlic, finely chopped and sautéed
56 ounces crushed tomatoes
1 bay leaf
1 bunch parsley
1 pinch red pepper flakes
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.
6 basil leaves, cut into strips

Instructions

Note: Use a pot large enough to hold the marinara sauce and meatballs. First we brown the meatballs in the pot and then we cook the sauce in the same pot to give it more flavor.

Gently combine all the meatball ingredients (except the oil), in a large bowl, do not overwork the meat, we want tender meatballs.
Form into 1+1/2 inch balls.
